Poster Advert

This is the film poster that we created as part of our ancillary tasks. We changed the picture slightly compared to when we planned it, as we captured the image to show the path that the two characters are walking along colliding. This gives narrative to the film title "Collision."

Evaluation Proposal

For my evaluation, I am planning on creating it by speaking into a video camera and then editing the footage using the programme "Final Cut." I will edit the footage using different transitions and effects when talking about the different stages that I went through. These stages will include the different ideas that I initially thought of and why I chose my finaly idea. Using the video camera will make my evaluation very creative and I can use further effects such as putting music in the background and also adding in different print screens of the coursework as it was being made. This could include shots of the story board being shown on screen with me talking in the background.

I think that choosing to do my evaluation in a video format is the best option because it offers a range of different features that I can use, this gives me further practice of using programs that established professionals use in there careers. Furthermore, I can get my points across in the best and most clear way as I will be speaking directly.

Poster Planning

The picture above is the design for the picture we want on our poster. The picture is of two boys walking, but on different sides of the road. the boys in the poster are the two characters from the film and they are on different sides of the road on purpose to show how they dont not know each other and both live different lives.

The second drawing is the design of what is going to be included on the poster. There is the title so the audience know what film the poster is advertising. There is also a review from a leading tabloid paper and a star tating- this is important because the audience can see how the film is rated so they can decidee if they want to watch it. There is the age rating inthe bottom right hand corner, this has been used as it is conventional because every film has an age rating. Furthermore, the two actors names have been included because this once again follows the normal conventions for film posters

Radio Planning

Radio Advert Script

[Bell rings]

“One town, one school, two completely different individuals.”

“Separated by class, separated by money, but not for long.”

[Car screech]

“Collision!”

“When two paths cross”

“A Mace Productions Film starring Matthew Pettifer and Andrew York.”

The radio advert starts with the sound of a school bell ringing, this has been included so the audience immediately know that the film has a link to school and therefore it reaches the target audience.

The dialogue that is used to cause a sense of curiosity for the audience. The voice is speaking slowly and it hinting at different things but nothing is clear. Just before the title of the film is announced there is the sound effects of a car screeching. This is leading the audience to believe that the film is based on a car crash yet the do no know the real meaning so will want to see the film to find out.

Finally, the radio ends with the conventional dialogue of who the film was produced by and the actors starring in it.

Story Board

This is the story board for our film Collision. The first two scenes have been drawn out as they are important to the film. They are important because in the pictures, you can see things that represent Chelsea Fc, this has been purposely done because despite the boys different backgrounds, they still have things in common that they do not know yet. Furthermore, we have drawn out the same thing of the two boys brushing there teeth and then walking down the stairs, this is further portraying how they are the same despite there different social classes and background.

At the end of scene #2, there is a shot of the character from the poorer background standing outside where he lives. This is an establishing shot to show the audience his living conditions compared to the other character who has a very nice detached house with a drive way.

The third scene is footage of the school day progressing. We have included the clock to show the time of the day changing.

The fourth scene that we have drawn is important as it is the scene of the accident. We have drawn out a mobile phone with the words, "i'll be there a.s.a.p." This is showing the audience that the character from the nice backgound is in a rush and will be speeding when he is driving- not giving any thought or concern to those around him. the accident is then drawn with the character from the poorer background getting run over, this is important as this is what starts the two different characters talking to each other.

Target Audience

Who Are The Target Audience For Short Films?
The target audience for short films tends to be people between the groups A and C1 on the social class table, these people may have good educational backgrounds and economical status'. An unemployed person who is considered group E may be a student who is making a short film and targeting it at the more professionals from the higher classes who can invest in the film and the maker. Psychographic types that short films are targeted at are SUCCEEDERS, this is because these are powerful and successful people can look at a short film and decide to invest in it to make themselves more money. ASPIRERS can also be considered as the target audience because they strive for a bigger and better lifestyle and if they see a film that can make them a lot of money then they will also invest in it.

Who Are The Target Audience For Films We Looked At?
The target audience for the short films that we looked at was youths. the youths tended to be between the ages 12 and 18 because they were all still at school.

Who Are You Making Your Film For?
I am making my film for youths who are still at their secondary school and between the ages of 12 and 18. This age range has been chosen as my film is set on school children and showing an important school scenario. Therefore it is important that school children see it. The psychographic categories that youths fit into are TRENDIES, EGOIST, PURITANS, INNOVATORS, REBELS, GROUPIES, DRIFTERS, DROP OUTS, TRADITIONALISTS, UTOPIANS, CYNICS and COWBOYS.
My film is targeted at all of these because they are all youths who are pleasure seeking, those craving acceptance and those who want the world to be a better place. My film is aimed at these because all of these different categories are found in schools and therefore it is important that all should see it because the scenario in my film could happen to anyone.

How Will You Measure Your Success In Having Made A Product Which Appeals To This Audience?
I will be measuring my success by uploading the video to YouTube and then asking for feedback comments. Alternatively, the film will be shown to a different load of students who can then give honest feedback through email.

Re-Draft : A Level Proposal

For my A Level media task I am going to be working with Grace Williams and we have decided to create the short film instead of the movie trailer or newspaper. We have decided to creat the short film as we have already practiced doing this last year and enjoyed it. We currently only have a rough idea of what we are going to do and need to sort out our final idea.

Representation
Our idea at the moment is to base our film around the representaion of social class. We are going to focus on two students who both go to the same school and are the same age which is going to be 16/17. However, the two teenagers will have very different backgrounds and will be treated differently, this will be showing how your social class can have an differnt and sometimes negative affects on your life.
Institution
We want the film to be as real as possible which the audience can relate to, like Kidulthood. It is not going to be a clean polished film as we want to focus on realism which will represent events as truly as possible.
Values
We are going to have to use different camera techniques to show the realism in our film to live up to our values.
Audience
Our target audience for this film is teenagers from the age 15 up to when you are still in school so either 16 or 18. We have chosen this as our target audience as our film is about youngsters so we ideally want youngsters to watch it and understand it. Our film will not contain swearing or violence however, if we get the feeling of realism right then we will not need the cursing or violence as the film will be jut as effective to our audience.
Language
The music and mise en scene is going to play an importnat roll in this film as there will not be a lot of dialogue. We will use different techniques using the camera like editing and zooming on different parts of the film to connote different meanings, eg. we may zoom in on an expensive piece of jewerlly to show money and wealth.
Ideology
Our short film is going to deal with real issues in society that affect lots of people. Our film will address bullying and broken homes and will portray a view as real as possible how it affects people instead of a film which is not reality and escapes the issues.
Narrative
Our film is going to be set over a typical day for the two teenagers. It will show how the two students are treated different in school by their peers and how even though neither of the characters show it, they are being affected all the time. We have not decided on a definate ending yet but we think we will show the end of the school day with each character going home and something dramatic happening to the person who is neglected and lonely.
Genre
Our short film will come under action/drama

A Level Proposal

For my A Level media task I am going to be working with Grace Williams and we have decided to create the short film instead of the movie trailer or newspaper. For our video we have decided to focus on the representation of class but have not come up with a final idea. We have two ideas at the moment and are deciding which one to go with. Our first idea is to show two teenagers from different backgrounds who go to the same school, one will be of a working class who does not have much and is very lonely at home and at school and the other person will be from a middle class area who is considered stuck up with a nice house and lots of stuck up friends at school. Throughout the film, the teenager from the poorer area is neglected by everybody and is therefore depressed, this could end up in a dramatic ending for the child who is lonley in school and at home, whilst the student from the richer background does not even acknowledge the other person untill at the end and then they realise how lucky they are and how they are going to change. Our other idea is to switch the characters around. Instead we may do the teenager from the richer background to be lonely and depressed as his/her parents may always be away and they may not fit in at school where as the person from the working class background will actually turn out to be the happy child who may not have much but is happy with what he has as he/she will have a strong family and many friends. During our film, e will use different techniques to indicate and represent ideas through the film. For example we may focus the camera on little things to do with each of the teenagers such as there foot wear or jewelry which could connote and represent different backgrounds and lifestyles. We plan on using teenagers as the cast as this way teenagers who watch the video can relate and we want them to be our target audience. Our film will represent difference in class and though some people may have everything; it doesn't mean they are happy.
